Watching critters squirm as they disappear into a pulverizing boil may just give a homebrewer a deeply unsettled feeling, but that’s usually the extent of the damage. However, the matter is much more serious at the larger scale that breweries operate at. Avoid infestations and ensure the malt and grain you’re receiving is pest-free and stays that way.

In the BA Supply Chain Subcommittee‘s new Malt Receiving, Response, and Storage Best Practices, you’ll find:

  • what to check when receiving grain shipments (including a downloadable checklist)
  • what steps to take if the shipment doesn’t pass inspection
  • how to store grain to ensure your ingredients’ integrity stays intact up until ready to use

Happy vermin-free brewing!

The reason it is mentioned on the label is because the brand name of the beer is named after a local legend about a carved gypsum statue and local gypsum quarries. The story of the legend and the origins of  gypsum in this style of beer are included on the label.
