WHAT YOU’LL DO

Duties include performing daily production functions in the brewhouse, cellar, and packaging required to meet daily production goals. The Production Brewer position is focused on brewhouse or cellar operations. Brewers have the potential to rotate through these departments. The scope of job duties includes but is not limited to wort production, cellar work, filtration, CIP, and cleaning.

Reports to: Brewing Supervisor

  • Maintain proficiency in at least two of the following production areas: brewhouse, cellar, and/or packaging. The ability to function effectively in all three areas is considered a plus for the employee.
  • Work week is based on a 40+ hour schedule and a 24-hour 5 day per week operating plan. Due to production needs, overtime may be required.
  • Ability to work a flexible rotating shift schedule is a requirement. Availability rotating between 1st, 2nd; 1st: 5:45am-2:15pm; 2nd: 1:45pm-10:15pm
  • Load raw materials and process aids in the product at various production stages.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work area.
  • Set up hoses, fittings, and clamps as required for production and cleaning operations.
  • Perform production operations, CIP’s, and sanitation practices with strict adherence to SOP’s set forth in training.
  • Perform basic maintenance task on pumps, valves, tanks, and process equipment.
  • Extensive work with and through automation a core part of the Brewer role including interpreting and troubleshooting.
  • Embrace a process of and opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Conformance to all area LOTO and safety procedures, including wearing of PPE and reporting any safety hazards.
  • Report safety incidents immediately to the shift supervisor or designate.
  • Responsible for daily operation of packaging lines- either kegging, bottling, or canning line fillers, cleaning equipment and perform in accordance with SOPs and specifications.
  • Keeping the lines running, e.g. keeps bottle filler/labeler in production and providing direction/support for the packaging assistants assigned to the line.
  • Loading of packaging material, clearing jams, resetting faults.
  • Basic changeovers for different container size and formats
  • Perform line quality checks and escalate deviations from expected results.
  • Maintaining area GMP’s.
  • Complete basic preventative maintenance (e.g. lubrication, observation, etc.) and enter corrective work order requests into eMaint (CMMS).
  • Manually (palletizing) stacking filled can cases onto pallets.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Brewer should be safety and quality focused in all work activities
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 1-3 years of food or beverage operations experience or similar related experience. Brewing, Packaging, and/or supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Candidate must have good computer skills and be proficient in Excel, Word and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to smoothly handle multiple demands and rapid change
  • Ability to operate with minimal supervision
  • Skilled in thinking critically and problem solving
  • Willingness to fill in other job duties as necessary
  • Physical Requirements – Candidate should be able to lift at least 30 lbs. from ground level and should also be able to move 165 lbs. of kegged beer from one location to another. Physically capable of standing for long periods of time and able to kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Packaging Shift Supervisor is an integral, first line management position, proficient in the packaging operation of the brewery. The position ensures the completion of daily and weekly production plans and is accountable for achieving Packaging Department goals. The Packaging Shift Supervisor will oversee a team of Packaging Line Leads and Packaging Line Assistants, and will ensure escalation of any issues to the appropriate party.

  • Exhibit and maintain proficiency in packaging operations, including ensuring basic and routine maintenance, equipment cleaning, and operation in accordance with SOPs.
  • Oversight and responsibility for shift qualitative and quantitative production goals for three packaging lines.
  • Coordinate incoming product from the fermentation cellar, incoming packaging materials and outgoing finished product with the supply chain.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and drive solutions by providing direction to staff.
  • Act as first responder for all shift issues, providing solutions.
  • Provide pertinent follow up information to inter-brewery shift leads, brewery managers, maintenance team, quality assurance team and scheduling.
  • Adhere to SOPs to elevate process control and minimize variability from operator to operator. Provide edits and improvements to SOPs, as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of environment and equipment in accordance with QA/QC standards, implementing improvements where appropriate.
  • Champion safety protocols in all activities, participating in improvements to safety standards where appropriate.
  • Fill shifts as necessitated by vacations, staffing levels, necessary overtime.
  • Ensure all equipment is operating safely, at maximum efficiency and maintained to the highest standards by supporting the maintenance department schedule. Submit work orders as necessary for equipment.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of urgency to problem solving through practicing and perfecting root cause analysis.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert to clean or CIP any of the packaging equipment.
  • Provide feedback on performance reviews for Packaging Line Assistants and Packaging Line Leads, in concert with the Packaging Manager
  • Participate in the interview process for new associates, as well as manage departmental on-boarding and training.
  • Support initiatives to ensure minimal waste during manufacturing.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree, a plus
  • Availability for steady 2nd Shift, M-F, 1:45pm-10:15pm
  • Minimum 2 years of packaging in a production brewery, ideal
  • Experience in packaging in a food/beverage manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical aptitude, with the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve

OBJECTIVE: 

The primary responsibilities of a Shift Brewer include all tasks required to turn raw materials into finished beer at our 20 bbl production brewery and 5 bbl pub brewery, both in the brewhouse and in the cellar.  A Shift Brewer is involved in many aspects of the beer making process including product development, sourcing of raw materials, brewing beer, meeting customers, and marketing beer.  We are seeking someone who loves great craft beer and all parts of the brewing process.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • The complete brewing process from milling to wort production, to fermentation and filtration.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing tanks, cleaning the outsides of vessels, cleaning floors, and maintaining the appearance of the brewhouse and cellar.
  • Cellar management, including yeast pitching, daily fermentation tracking and dry-hopping.
  • Close adherence to all policies and safety procedures, as provided.
  • Upholding and advancing our quality standards.
  • Accurately completing all SOPS.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing regularly.
  • Basic cellar work, including transfers, filtering, fining, dry hopping, carbonating beer, and basic sensory.
  • Assist with packaging, including kegging and canning.
  • Experience conducting basic laboratory work, including cell counts, pH measurement, ABV, and extract measurement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout an 8-10 hour brewing shift.
  • Ability to frequently talk, hear, and smell.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50lbs and drag up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms. Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to focus on small moving objects.
  • Must be able to participate in the critical assessment of beers (i.e. must be 21+)
  • Comfortable working in potentially confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in spaces with potentially large swings in temperature, or in sustained cold or hot conditions.
  • Basic chemical hygiene and chemical handling.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • 1+ years of professional brewing or cellar experience
