Harassment is, and continues to be, the workplace problem of this generation. Three significant events in the past year have made addressing the problem even more urgent. First, in 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court ended affirmative action programs in college and university settings. The ruling is certain to impact all employers’ diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and make conversations about mistreatment potentially more difficult. Second, the Supreme Court has consistently reinforced the religious rights of employees. Now, the conflict between employees’ religious beliefs and other protected groups is even more pronounced and can aggravate differences. Finally, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has proposed sweeping guidance for employers—for the first time in 25 years—that promises to affect every aspect of work. This session offers guidance and constructive tools for preventing and ending workplace harassment in the midst of a sea change in the law.
